Age:24
Height:6'0
Weight:303= don't look like a 300lber.

Bench press raw always was well over 400. I tore my pec last February 3or 4dys before Valentines Day. Had I not tore it I would probably be in the 500lb class.
Incline press just last year I blasted out 400 pretty sick. I had to compensate for a weak bench with something else.
Ohp are in the high 300. with a axle I've done 300 also.
Deadlifts are my favorite,I did 495 for 2 reps without a belt in January. I've also done well over 500 in the gym w/belt. My squats could be a whole lot better. I haven't maxed out on squats since high school. I love good mornings and zercher's they help out with my deadlift alot. I just started last year taken protein and multivitamins around April. If I stay on track which alot of times I don't, I'll probably feel a whole lot better.
I haven't had the chance to lift this week due to a messy cold it really sucks when you're sick. sorry so long later.

Jesse, in high school I trained cleans and snatches almost all the time. Probably too much since my PC was higher than my back squat at some points. At 6'7" and 230 I could PC 330 and squat maybe 315. I finally learned to eat more when I got to college.

I'm 29
6'1" or 6'2" depending on where the pencil mark ends up on the wall.
220 lbs (give or take 3 lbs depending on the day)

I've been lifting since I was about 20, but didn't get serious about it until about 2 or 3 years ago.

Best lifts:
Dead (conventional):445
Not sure on my squat, but I'd guess low 400s.
Bench: Probably about 8 lbs or so. I have no idea.
Power clean: 255
Jerk press: 255
Biggest stone: 365 to the 45"(?) platform. (I think it was 45". Jeff Ford can give the exact height.)

Jesse Marunde
02-17-2005, 10:57 AM
Dave, my power clean exceded my back squat for a long time when I was starting out too. My front squat is still weak compared to my pull and speed under the bar.

I never really post my bench but since it seems everyone has I will. I benched 400 about 3 months ago. If it would have been 4001/4 I would have missed it. I think I've benched about 5 times in 2 years. My close grip bench is pretty much the same as my flat bench.

I hit 340 on the 8" before the Pro/Am in May (when John/Van/Sam came down to train)........although you'd never guess by my performance on the long in May.

I hit 340 on the 12" about 4 weeks ago....it took me about 8 months to make the change to the bigger size on the 12".

Honestly because the 12" is so much harder for me - it's very hard for me to get much leg drive or any sort of dip on the big log - I think I can hit a decent amount more then 340 on the 8" log now......I'd like to take a shot at Van's record - need a contest with a max 8" log in it.

You know something I never told you - your one of the reason my log is where it is.....I never really had great shoulder strenght - so I knew i would have to use technique. Every contest I was at that you were in I studied the way you did the press - even warm ups. I also found a friend that had a couple of clips with you on it and really tried to work on the driver up and the dip - focusing on really thowing my head through to help my shoulders lock..... That and a lot of close grips.......

So thanks.....

I hesistate to post my stats as I've only started training heavy again back in November 2004 after going to a Svend Karlsen seminar. Before the seminar my training was mostly rehab of a slight pec tear, left rotator cuff and a partial acl tear from MMA training. Prior to that I was training for MMA, Rugby, Grappling, and Bodybuilding. My best lift was my bench back when I competed in powerlifting as a teen in the late 80's. I did 435 at 198 in a contest with no bench shirt in 1987. As a bodybuilder my best sets were: Bench 405x5, 315x15, Squat 405x10, 315x25 (low bar, rock bottom, small belt only), Bent Rows: 405x5, 315x10, Seated Dumbell Press: 130'sx6, 110'sx18, Deadlift: 505x5 stopping each rep on floor and 405x20.

As of today I am working on getting good at strongman so most of my time has been spent regaining lost strength and learning how to use the implements. I have never done any type of unsupported overhead pressing until recently.
My current stats are:
5'10 225lbs 37 years old
Deadlift 515x1 raw (easy)
Squat 455x1 raw (easy)
Log Press 200x1 (easy but very awkward, still trying to find a groove. Only my 6th? workout on the log)
Axle clean and Press: 250x1 (not too hard but still trying to find a groove here as well only my 3rd or 4th workout on the axle)
Farmers walk 205 in each hand for 50 feet (didn't time it)
Yoke walk 400 lbs for 50 feet (didn't time it)
Stone load 300 to chest high platform no-tacky (unsure of height) 280 to 54" easy (thanks to steve kirit's sand bag rows)-I bought the set of stones on ebay (116, 166, 240, 325, 355) so I'll get a shot at the heavier ones on my next stone day.

Most of these lifts weren't close to max efforts. I'm still trying to get the hang of them and stay healthy. I have had alot of injuries in the past including an achilles tendon rupture that I had to have repaired along with a bunch of shoulder elbow and knee injuries so I haven't really started to push it yet. I think I will be doing a novice strongman contest at the end of july so I'm in no rush to re-injure myself. My main goal at this time is to build a good healthy base. Sorry if that post was a little long winded-lol.

Death lift is the same meaning Maastaveto. Maybe give me correct term. It means grabbing the long bar from the bottom and tug it all up to the standstill.

Really enjoying powerlifting since I found out a few years ago I can no longer wrestle due to complications with some cervical discs. Big Shawn helps quite a bit, he's got a great gym for strongman, powerlifting, bodybuilding, and for serious athletes.

Best lifts so far...
Squats...600 in comp, full gear
...600x3 straps down recently in gym :D 650 plus in next meet!!!
Bench...385 comp, 425 gym recently, 350 raw a few months ago
Deadlift...550 raw, belt only after squats...need to get up to 600 soon.

I've been competing at powerlifting for 3 years now. Just converted to strongman and am doing my first comp. on May 21 in Salina, KS.

Best powerlifting numbers: all at 242 bodyweight....
Squat: 750
Bench: 530
Deadlift: 640
Raw Close Grip: 405
I've just started working overhead: I've done a 280 axle clean and press and only played with a log (8.5") once and did 270 and just stopped - it was after heavy benching and I had more in me.

Can't wait to do my first comp. I plan on doing a handful of them this summer as Willie W and his crew are only 3 hours away and Eric Todd and his crew are also only 3 hours away. - So I'm in Strongman USA.

I first met Jesse when he was the judge in St. Louis at Missouri's Strongman Competition. He judged me in the log press. It was my first Strongman comp and I got smoked, but it was a blast. We all went out to eat at some Mexican restaraunt after the competition. I think it was in 2001. I was then writing for Monster Muscle the Magazine as the "Renegade Strongman".

I have recently started training for strongman. Had my interest sparked by watching Jesse's friend Cory StClair put on a few shows. Like I said, I have a ways to go, but I just gotta compete. I used to wrestle, compete in track and field, played football (Boise State, Professional Arena,) but now I don't have an outlet. This is it, I should have been doing strong man all along. I competed in powerlifting & bodybuilding in high school, but that was quite a while back.

Its like watching basketball on TV, you think allen iverson is some short ass guy however, he is like 6'2 and tall compared to the normal human being.

I should have taken pictures with the competitors at Venice beach as well!!! Then I can show my friends how small I really am. Thanks Patrick. I do shot put as my main sport. I did rugby till this year, now I'm doing some olympic lifting meets, got our national schools champs (I'm a HS senior) in 3 weeks. I've done one PL meet before just for kicks (that squat pic was from there with 530 which I missed), 2 highland games and I'm probably going to do some strongman in November.

The events are 100kg farmers for 50m times, 56lb weight for height, 350lb anvil for distance, log clean and press for max single and stones from 180- 320lbs. I dunno if I'll manage all of that, but we'll see.

Patrick McGuffin
08-21-2005, 01:56 PM
stones are something you will have to get used to to do well(unless you are a freak who can perfect anything the first try) and the log is quite different than a regular bar so if you have the chance you should definately get some time training with them (my first contest i just went and competed and it was disasterous :D )

6' 1" / 335-340lbs (at present, still dropping fat, however)

I am just coming out of almost a whole year of not training, with the exception of a brief 6-week 20-rep squat routine that put me in the hospital.

Now, I have dedicated myself to a competition that I just discovered is being turned into a Pro/Am... on December 10th. Let's just say my work is cut out for me.

Now that I found out Dan Harrison is coming, I am gonna have to hit the buffets :-)

My goal for December, simply enough, is to compete as best I can - and not be dead last. Even if I did have the strength to gain a pro card, I don't really want one at this time. I really just need a new excuse to train my brains out.

Hello everyone.

I've been lurking here for one or two months now, thought I should finally post something. Anyway, I competed in my first strongman competition about one month ago, had a blast. I was in the novice division and took second place. Since that was my first time, I guess all of my stuff there counts as PR's.

Log Press - 240lbs (this was pretty easy though, I think it was only a 7" log)
650lbs tire flipped for 50 ft
Axle deadlift for reps (60 seconds) - 22 reps
Arm over Arm pull - 37 seconds (I fell off the tire while doing this, I need a lot of practice in this event)
Atlas Stones - loaded all 5 in 60 seconds (185, 195, 220, 250, 280) onto 50" platform

Since the event (this past weekend) I pressed a 220lb 12" diameter log. I was able to lap a 340lb stone on my first attempt but I couldn't get it loaded onto the 50" platform. I yoked 460lbs around 50ft a few times, that was pretty easy as well. Goofing around I was able to farmers carry 175lb/hand 75ft (approx) in 11.5 seconds (a year or two ago).

I have also tried one powerlifting meet with pathetic results, am competing in the same event on Nov. 5th of this year. Not sure what my max lifts are until then, but last year I posted 445 squat, 300 bench, and 555 deadlift (1300 total). This was in the 198lb class and I competed unequipped (no wraps, belt, or suits). I'm hoping for a 1500 total this year in the 220lb class, but my bench might cause me to fall short of that.

I can clean & jerk around 125kg and snatch around 90-92.5kg.

I am about 5'10" tall and weigh in around 208lbs with shoes, tshirt, and shorts. I am 31 years old. I don't take any supplements, and haven't really taken any since I started lifting again. (I have been lifting seriously for about 2 years now after a 4 or 5 year lay off.)

I am happy to hear any training advice anyone has to offer. This site seems pretty entertaining and friendly so far. Thanks Jesse for putting it out here for us strength athletic fans and competitors.

Regards,

John Jr.

Another lurker here who is finally ready to start posting!

Stats aren't too impressive, but they're getting better -

Squat - 480 lbs. (going for 500 in a few weeks), 4553 done yesterday after 5 singles at that weight.
Bench - 280 lbs. last time I maxed out (I bench about 8 times per year)
Deadlift - Pulled an ugly 545 about a year ago, haven't maxed since then
All lifts are done raw, closest I get to support gear is the belt around my pants when I lift.

Power clean and push press - 275 lbs.
Log press - 240 on a 7" log, 230 on a 10" log
Stones - went from being humbled by a 225 lb. the first time I tried one this summer (no tacky at the time) to getting 300 lbs. on a 50" platform and 340 to my lap and up a few inches by my 3rd stone workout.
Not a whole lot more for impressive lifts that I'm pleased with except a bottom-up Zercher lift in the rack with 545 lbs. last year when I trained it a lot (done from just under a parallel squat depth). For some reason I enjoy the pain of that damned lift - I need to start training on a Conan's wheel one of these days!

Entered 2 strongman comps this past year - got hurt in the first event of my first contest, finished up 9th of 18 overall (no classes/divisions) and won the novice division in another event last month, which really got me excited to train harder than ever.

Oh yeah, I've been vegan for about 5 years now as well, just to make things more interesting. I'm looking forward to really focusing on strongman training this year, and a big thanks to the guys here in the area who have given me the chance to train with them recently (you know who you are!)

Ryan
Ryan, If you want to train the Conan's some time, round up some of the Milwaukee boys and make a trip up to Big Tony's. We have a Conan's there, and it's pretty big...98' radius. I'm one of those goof-balls who also loves the Conan's and Zercher squats. If the other guys can't make it, you're still welcome to come up some time. We train on Sat mornings from around 9-12.

Good Idea Paul, I'd like to come up this winter a few times. I'll let you know after nationals are over. Look at all the Milwaukee strongmen now. Let's keep recruiting more guys! Hopefully in the future we can have some kind of regional or team contests.

Paul - I'll definitely have to make it out some weekend. Do you guys have somewhere indoor to train, or is it outside year round? Just asking, because I definitely would want to know how many layers I'll need if I came out between now and next April! I've had a tough time making enough gatherings here locally lately due to my terrible scheduling (Carl has witnessed this a few times by my failing to make it out lately), but I should be in a better spot come November so hopefully it'll happen soon enough.

Oh yeah - good luck at nationals, Carl! Can't forget to wish you the best on that one as well. Do Milwaukee proud with a solid placing!

Ryan, I don't want to hijack this thread anymore than we already have, so just email me.
pneuhaus@new.rr.com
It is indoors, and we have just about every event there. The only reason to go outside would be to set up the Conan's or do FW for long distances. I take a lay-off from work in the winter, usually starts the week of deer hunting, so I'll be able to go to Tony's even during the week some time if you want.

I am 26 years old, 5'11", and 235lbs. PR's are Back Squat (high bar squat, all the way down, belt only) 445x1. Front Squat (365x1 all the way down, belt only).....Deadlift (hook grip, conventional stance, belt only) 550x1. Incline Press ...385x1.....Flat bench 405x1 (raw).....Power Clean 300x1 (I think I am capable of much more, I have this nasty habbit of not fully extending myself before I begin to drop underneath)....Push Press from the front (275x1, again I feel like I have more in me if I get the leg drive figured out because I have done 225x2 in a strict standing press). I've been training since I was 13 for a variety of different goals, I train right now because I love to and I want to see how far I can take my body.

Just thought I'd introduce myself since I started posting a little more often. I am from Northeast, PA and would love to get into strongman or Highland Games training, so if anybody near by knows of a gym with the equipment, I'd love to check it out some time. I've never used any implements before and have always wanted to train them.

Luke,
Dude if those lift stats are real, then there is no need for anyone to laugh, they are very good!
I don't know anyone who can do some of the lifts you claim. If you take your strongman training lightly then I would not be surprised if you became a world contender if you took it seriously.

I pull weights by 'levering' all my muscles and ligaments against my bone structure, so I guess that's a bad way to do things. I know there's a guy who trains near me who got into the local paper by pulling 245kg in his local club. He trains really hard but he's about 86kg so I don't really know what's normal, what someone can do once, always, not at all etc..

I had to do my stats again because I screwed up (by about 20%) the college gym set up: I remembered 22 bars on each machine but there's only 20 and two are 2.5 kg, so more fool me.

H: 180cm
W: 98kg

Pulling 'weights to the chest' machine: 20 by 5kg + 20kg free weights on hooks by 48 reps
Pushing 'weights in the air with legs' machine: 20 by 5 kg + 35kg free weights on hooks by 60 reps + 12 reps each with one leg.
Puling free weights on a bar: 24 reps of 130kg to waist, 1 rep of 155kg to knees, 265 kg (impossible except for that one off a while back: 6 inches off the ground..)
Squat: 125kg by 12 reps, 1 rep of 145kg.
Bench: I suck: 95kg by 12 reps.

My current best. I knew I was overestimating my lifts before, no strongman: fairly strong guy in the gym is all.

1 kg apparently varies from 2lbs to 2.29lbs.

Bench Press - 335

Squat - 415 :o

Deadlift - 405 :o

I've been squatting "seriously" for the past year and deadlifting consistantly for the past 6 months or so. But by consistant I guess I mean every other week - was focusing on rack deads for most of that time. Deads have been a battle for me for some reason - have had lower back issues ever since my freshman year of high school from wrestling. I would like to get my squats in the higher 400s and my deads in the low 500s by this time next year.

Oh I guess I should add that I train more bodybuilding related. :o But my reps are always between 6-4, and usually 5-3 on bench, deads and squats....sometimes 1-2 on deads.

I've always been fascinated with powerlifting/strongman training, however. Been watching the WSM since I was like 14...probably younger. I plan to start a more strength oriented routine after this summer though.

Here's mine, only been training since about mid-January:

Squat 240 for reps
DL 220 for reps
Bench 175
Overhead Press 120

Hoping to eventually get my weights up to a respectable enough level to try out for Strongest Man in Pittsburgh next year. Injured my lower back for about a month now, so no squatting or deadlifts since :(

I should probably update this, been a while and that was back when I was hurt a bit. I've competed in a strongman competition since (Strongest Man in PA, 3rd place novice lightweight, tied with Diesel Weasel) and after doing a good bit of singles training Justa-style and Westside my stuff seems to be getting better.

Squat 315, going for 325 tomorrow
Deadlift 405+ (hit 405 last time but way too easy)
Farmer's Walk 190
Hub pinch a 35lb plate with three 2.5lb plates (only have pic evidence of two though :P)
Log press 155
Can close an HG200 and almost a 250, need a COC2 to see if I can nail that

Height: 5'9"
Weight: Right now about 172, cutting down a bit of my holiday chub :D

And yesterday was my one-year anniversary for lifting, so I guess I'm doing okay

:D Just getting back into lifting. Did a lot more in HS 18 years ago, and am working back towards that and beyond :D A lot of this is done on machines [toughest used college gym machines I could find] because I am very geographically isolated, lift in my "dungeon" and have no spotters. Hope to purchase power racks etc this summer to encorporate more Olympic free weight training.

Age - 36
Height - 5'10"
Weight - 285lbs

Bench - Machine - 315lbs for 5 on last set [not sure what my max would be]

Military Press - Olympic Free Weights, pretty weak right now at 195lbs for a hard 8 reps. No spotter or rack for max.

Leg Press - 500lbs for 15 reps on last set [this is the max of my machine's stack until I get the local machine shop to build be a "saddle" for it so I can add weight.]

3 sets of 5 Standing Dumb Bell curles with hex 50's

3 sets of 10 Preacher curles with 100.

All raw. Looking for a good fat waisted leather lifting belt so I can get back to serious Dead Lifting, which is my all time favorite lift! :D

No Squat [all time LEAST favorite lift] until I get the power rack.

ok here it goes , but dont laugh im only 16 and have never done any routines focusing on strength training

ht 5'9"
wt 232 (pudgy)

bp 250
dl405 (on a good day)
squat 395
push press(from rack) 215
clean196
striat military press 165
incline 205
tire flip 680x4

all lifts are without support

So it has been a little over a year here and I decided to re post some of my stats, exept for the squat , clean and log prs, these were all done within a year of this last post.

Age: 17
Height: 5'9"
Weight: 252lbs as of today. Around the same bf level as last year plus I can still wear the same size pants but they are a little looser now :)

GYM LIFTS:

Upper body:

Ohp from rack: 275 (probably 10-20lbs more now) 185x20 (from clean)
CG bench: 265
Military press: 185x3
DB press: 90x3 or 4

Oly lifts and squats:

Back squat: 415x4, 365x6 raw
Front squat: 300lbs (only maxed once)
Clean:295
Power clean: 275
Snatch: 185x5

Back:

Deadlift: 500x3 (easy, could probably get 5 to 7)
18" DL: 605x3 (months ago)
Rows: 300x3 (months ago)
Shrugs: 315x10 (months ago)

I need to start doing heavy back work again now that my squats and oly lifts are starting to catch up.

Events:

Tire flip: 500x7x5, 1000x2 (long tima ago, need to use this baby again)
Farmers walk: 250-275x100ft in 11.5 seconds
Truck pull: 36000lb 75ft in 54 and x 100ft in 1:17 in rain.
Atlas stone: 220x20 to 54, 220 shoulder x5
Keg toss: 12.5ft
Axle press: 220x4 (easy)
Axle clean: 250
Log press: 255 (easy), c&p 165x13 in 60 sec (good for 2-3 more)
Log clean: 300 (easy)( 325 would have fallen if not for the weights coming off lol)

Grip:

Pinch lift: 2-35's to lockout, hold 2-25's x 25 seconds
Grippers: HG 250 x10+ 20 sec hold ( I cant find my 300 lol)
Tear a seattle metro phone book
Bend nails

Um lets see what else, um, I can balance a stool on my chin lol. I need to re test half of these because it has been a long time since I last tried to max on alot of these. I want to increase my oly lifts by at least 30lbs this next year, 50-100lbs to my squats and dls, 50+ to my ohp and cg bench (axle andlog also). Then actuly get in time with alot of the other events. I also want to perfect my form on all my lifts and either loose 20lbs of fat or gain another 20lbs of muscle and loose a little more bf (or both). I think that I will be able to attian all of these.

I know what you mean my strength hasn't slowed since I started in January. Dan and Odd have helped me more than they could imagine. One of my best techniques is learning from people. I pick every thing up that they are doing and listen to whatever anyone has to say even if it doesn't sound like it is absolutly imparetive I will still store it my head. I guess you could say that my mind is a super spung, soaking in every bit of positive info. Those guys don't live very close either I have to drive 2 hours to get to Odd's and about 1 to get to Dan's, but I would drive 5 hours because I know what kind of opportunity I have and that doesn't come around every day.

My goals for the year are.....

200 each Farmers Walk in training (can lift them already without a lot of trouble. I just have to be able to move better with them.)
600 Tire Flip *DID/DONE*
400+ Deadlift (close but can't get that last bit yet!  )
200 log lift
I know these things are pretty meager to most on here.
Hopefully this board can help me with these goals.

I would doubt that anyone, on this board, would bench more than 500lbs in this fasion. If anyone can, I desperately want your secrets!

There are videos of a few people benching over 500 raw. For example Steve Kirit does a few reps narrow grip with 500+ raw in one of them. Granted there are no 3 second pauses but even in competition the pause is not 3 seconds. Are you just calling people out? I've seen plenty of guys bench 400+ raw (most don't do 3 second pauses because there is not much use for them but I'm sure there are many guys who could do it on this board). Are you just calling people liars???? What gives???

Yeah I'm going to agree with Mike here... For an adult male stregnth athlete a strict, raw 400lb bench isn't really all that much of anything. Most strongmen don't have a huge focus on bench because there isn't a lot of transfer to events (time/value). I haven't done traditional benching in 8 years or so... last time I did I did a 425 for a duce just shut a guy up.

Hell, there is a video of Tank Abbot doing 600 raw floating around on the net.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZsx-IQrkME&search=tank%20abbot

Not the strictest, but notice no belt, no wrist protection, no shirt, 1 spotter and he didn't stall at all.

Squat- 500 in canvas suit at 165 BW, 455 to parallel box w/breifs and belt at 170BW
Olympic squat- 365 at 170BW
front squat- 275 at 170BW
conventional deadlift- 505 at 170BW
sumo deadlift- 565 in canvas suit at 165BW
18" silver dollar deadlift- 650 at 175BW
stones- 270 to 54" is the biggest i've loaded, i've got more in me but our 315 stone is like 21" or something and its a bitch

bench press- 285 raw at 170BW, soon to be 300, 355 in double F6 at 165BW
12" log press- 215
behind the neck push jerk- 270
overhead strict press- 135, 2 sets of 5, weak!
push jerk- 205, weak!! haven't done them from the front in a while, always end up doing log

As you can see alot of my PR's were at lighter bodyweight, i've really been focusing on just getting better at the events this summer but alot of the PR's will be broken easily as soon as my focus changes back to strength.

Son, You have a scewed sense of reality.
I have rack with a $50 dollar Danskin bench (max capacity is 200 pounds... person lying on it) Jesse Marunde can attest...he has seen it.
I have done a set of 420 for 3 with my girlfriend standing by...only to call 911 if something bad happened... Spotter? I guess, in one sense of the word.
Bench shakin and weight unstable... i weigh 270.. so iam exceeding bench standards by 500 pounds...

Something like this would be expected from a Professional Athlete. What I am detesting are people who claim that they're 15 years old and can bench 315lbs for reps, strict style, and stand 5'11" @ a bodyweight of 160lb.

You also state that you're stronger than me. Well in Powerlifting regards - yes. However, I'll like to see you try and mash my Custom BB Elite that I recieved the other day.

Jere' Trevent
06-13-2006, 02:59 AM
Oh, wait, are these your stats( http://www.marunde-muscle.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2887&page=5&pp=10 ). If they're, how could you be benching anywhere near 420 x 3 if it states that you struggled with 315 for 2 reps? That just doesn't sound consistant. :BB:

Oh, yeah, my bench is on a sloping piece of concrete( Making inclined) -- and because I use an El Cheapo Barbell, I am forced to do it close grip. Therefore, you aren't that much stronger then me. I also live at 2500ft above sea-level.

Most people don't make the connection that "heavy" is a relative term. Genetics and upbringing are huge factors in determining how strong you are and can be. When I was a kid (starting at 6 years old) we would help all summer with my grandfather’s property. Every day on summer vacation. Sure we got time to play but we also moved sticks that turned into branches that turned into logs. Moved rocks that turned into stones that turned into boulders; pulled roots from the ground and moved 40lb bags of manure. In the winter we helped to shovel the snow. This stuff will make you one strong kid. We also had a set of monkey bars and my brother and me would play games like who can do more pull ups, or hold on longer and play on that thing for hours on end.

Then when you get into Jr. high and take your sports seriously you bench over 135 at 12 years old for reps, you think nothing of it. I'm willing to bet that most guys on here that compete at the elite and pro levels have a very similar up bringing to that. I've rarely heard of a guy who was strong as an adult that didn't do a ton of hard physical work early in life.

Did I mention in the 9th grade I competed in the 242lb weight class (actually weighed 230) of my high schools weightlifting team and we competed all over the county...I did a 275lb bench with a 3 second pause and had a 225lb clean and jerk. All on a 1 year of training under my belt. Indeed there are strong people out there believe it or not..........haha, damn that was a loonnngg time ago. :BB:

Yeah, I agree 100%. One of the reason that the Borders region of Scotland produced so many world-class rugby players in the last 50 years or so is that a lot of them come from farming backgrounds and they've been doing physical labour since they were old enough to help out. A lot of people my age in school, during the brief periods I thought I was going to play rugby for Scotland, had a 7 or 8 year head start on me in lifting heavy stuff. And it showed in games when I was repeatedly run over...

My roommate who recently finished football is built for benching. His peak in football was 6'2" 365 with a 500 raw bench. Obviously he wasn't very mobile or he wouldn't have been at D2. But anyway he didn't do anything after football was over (he was graduating) for 4 months. Then one day he finally agreed to come into the gym with me. He weighted 387 and with only one warm-up set he did 405 for 8 raw. All I'm saying is he will always be a crazy bencher, training or no. Some people are just built that way. SO Jere, I don't get what your problem is with believing people are stronger then you man.

If you were to read the post you would see that was an ordinary workout by myself... I don't attempt Max effort at every workout. The 420 for 3 reps was in my garage to see what I could do. My last workout was just that..a workout and a pyramid to 370.. not 315 for 3...

i am not even gonna continue this banter with you... I have read your journal as well... you have a long way to go...

here's your workout...oh and where your squats?

Ok, I'll open this up!

Wide-Hammergrip Chins: 8 x 3( Quick)

Benchpress: 5 x 1 ( 180lbs -- warmup)

4 x 3 ( 205lbs)

3 x 3 ( 230lbs)

1 x 1 ( 240lbs -- single)

The BP's are done without assistance, nor a spotter. I don't possess any lifting equiptment, and my bench moves around( El' Cheaper model and needs replacing!).

DB Rows: 5 x 3 ( 160lbs)

DB Curl: 6 x 1( 70lbs)

4 x 1( 85lbs)

2 x 1( 100lbs)

I am way stronge then you...and alway will be

I don't do leg work, because it's boring and I can't squat for anyway. Those DB Curls were done with near Full-Extension.

Wow thats some big weight. How come your not Pro Strongman yet.

I don't do too much of the 1RM in my training anymore. Lately I've taken the "Do a lot of weight a lot of times" approach to lifting, and no, I haven't competed in any strength competitions, but I avidly train SM and PL events. My family and friends think I'm a god when it comes to strength, but honestly, I think I'm still 'afraid' of not winning in front of them; I suck.
So as of a few months ago:
26 yrs., 6'2, 300# +/-.
I've done some of these at lower BWs as well
BP 505x2
DL 765x2
SQ 815x1
OHP 405x2
Clean & Jerk 315+? -I don't train it frequently enough to learn the technique.
Snatch- Never tried. Afraid of blowing out my shoulders
Grippers- Rep out on #s 1-3 COC grippers (have yet to try #4) as well as HGs 100-300 (Still haven't tried the 400/500)
Other interesting things I do in the gym that get people looking at me :)
Standing dumbell curls 2x130x15+
1 handed cable rows 300x15+
Barbell shrugs 855x15+

I hate stat posts, but here goes...

6' 1"/340-ish/28yo
Squat: 570 doubled on a box, 505x8 olympic style, 210kg (464lbs) front squat
Pull: 545 conventional, 660 farmer's pull, 690 trap bar pull, 500 2" bar over/under
Overhead: 325/BTN jerk, 135kg (297 or so) axle clean+press, 130kg (286 or so) 10" log, 350 x 4 Viking Press, 180 2.5" handle dumbell jerk
Yoke: 900 for 20ft, 800 for 50, 750 for 50 in under 8 seconds (7.2-something)
Stones: Embarrassing
Tire: 1100lb x 3, 750 x 15
Truckpull: 9 tons for 100ft in 41.5 seconds

I wrap knees and wear a belt on heavy box squats, but doing "olympic" squats or front squats I wear rehbands and belt with olympic shoes. I don't wear a belt on conventional pulls, or on overhead movements that involve cleans (which is probably why my viking press and BTNJ are so much higher than my cleaned lifts). I hardly wear a belt at all except on squats, yoke, and occasionally (but not recently) on farmers.

I am a newbie at the sport, relatively speaking. As anyone can tell by my other post about "Blast From The Past", I don't have a sports background or a lifting background. I got involved in strongman after a radical life change to keep me motivated, a touch over 3 years ago. I am very proud of my strength, but realize that for a heavy weight, I am really only as strong as most good lightweight competitors. That's all fine though. I am still the strongest man in the world to my son and wife.

*Edit: I just realized that I already replied to this post just over a year ago - and it was one of my first posts! I didn't, however, post any of my stats except my weight... which HASN'T CHANGED! Unngh*

k ill give it a go.
age: 19
years lifting: 4, 1.5 seriously
height: 6'
weight: 230lbs.
Deadlift: 475x1 fairly easy, belt and chalk
squat: 345x1 last time i checked, but i can now rep 315 for 7, which is up by about 4 reps. so that max is probably around 365, need to test tho. these are done ATG olympic style with only knee sleeves
Bench: 275x5
Farmers': 200x100 ft. in 45 secs.
log: 175 <--- absolutley terrible, havent tested in about 2 months though
Push Press: 185x3, really need to boost my overhead. i have the weakest shoulders you guys have ever seen.
Tires: 700x4 flips, 800 steelbeltedx4 singles

5'8" 230 lbs
31 years old

These are my best lifts in the last year and I'll post my best current lifts with them as well.

Strict standing overhead press 205 - current 199 for a triple
Sumo deadlift 495 - haven't deadlifted in months due to a hammy pull
Squat 405 is the most I've squatted recently but I did 315 for 20 about 2 months ago
Front squat 275 I think but tomorrow is a ME day so we'll see.
Power clean 265
Push press 245 for 3
Split jerk 265 for 3
Power snatch 185
Overhead squat 185
One armed barbell snatch 133
Pull ups - strict 8 - kipping 20 - clapping 10 - max effort 1 rep with 70 lbs and boy was it ugly.

Shooting for a bodyweight overhead press with no leg drive and 315 on the power clean and push press.

18, been lifting for almost exactly one year, although I always worked on labor crews and as a surveyor every summer 8th grade on. I also was very athletic, and got into rock climbing about a year and a half ago, which I have slacked on.

5'8
Around 165, a few pounds in either direction usually.

Presses-
1H Military- 75 pounds
Side press- 95 pounds
Barbell Military- 140 pounds, I'm working this hard right now.
Push Press- About to start working it again, previous best was 185 for 2, think I'm stronger now.
Power Jerk- Probably good for 195 or 200 right now, more with a good split.
Dips- I've done 21 recently, full-depth, on parallel bars.

Pulls-
Pullups- Not too good right, I can only do about eleven deadhangers, more if I kip.
Power Clean- Unsure what i can do right now, I do know that 185 for doubles is easy, with a jerk on each rep.
Squat Snatch- Most recent PR is 160 pounds, I've done 165 split-style.
Deadlift, standing on a 3" block- 350 pounds for 5, but this was not recently. I'm focusing more on oly-lifting now, though I've done cleans and snatches since I started lifting weights.
Suitcase Deadlift- 200 pounds, both sides.

Squats-
I recently got a squats stand, and with my fourth hi-bar squat session coming up, I'm pretty sure I could single with 260 right now. I pause my squats b/c I think it's more important for leg strength.

Only getting stronger, can't wait to see where I am in a year.

I´m weaker then a sack of poop but here goes:

deadlift: 418
Squat:396

Push press: 220
Power cleans: 220

Barbell strict curl: 132x2
One arm dumbbell clean and press: 102.2

Strongman lifts:
tire flip: 704
268 pound dtone onto a oil barrel.
Farmers walk: 209 approx. 50 yards

My strength progresses slowly...And notice how nice I am converting the kilos to pounds.
