Does anybody know what the strongman scene is like in AK? Or even if there is one? :)

I would have thought that being on the cold-side with a fishy diet and with logging as a major industry AK would be teeming with strength athletes much like Iceland, Finland etc.

Jesse, didn't you come from AK originally?

Rob,

Charles Mickey, who frequents this site, lived in Alaska for awhile. I don't think he started training strongman until he got to California though. He might have some ideas for you.

Besides strength training, he was big into snow wrestling up there. You know, two big, burly dudes, slathered up w/ oil right from the pipeline, drinking shots, then rolling in the snow to see who is "tougher". Maybe he'll mention that with his other tips!!!

He usually checks this board pretty frequently, he will probably get back at you soon, if not, I will give him a call at home to let him know. I am pretty sure he's got some friends up that way that train heavy, if not strongman.

good luck

Mark

That's cool.
:)

I hope to move there sometime. If there is no organisation for strongman up there (at least by the time I get there) then maybe that's something I could work on.

Snow wrestling sounds...interesting :D

my family comes from AK. I'm pretty sure there has never been a NAS show there.

Mark is pretty close. Oiled up drunken snow wrestling will most certainly make a man out of you. But I think the little pink elephants of his normal state of intoxication may be leading him astray. I’m sure he was referring to his Tranny Wrestling down in San Francisco’s Tender Loin district. You know how those "girls" love firemen! Ask him about the one he thinks is "kinda hot".......... :xo: :disgust:

Anyway Rob,

What part of AK are you going to? I was on Kodiak Island for a few years. Never heard much about strongman while I was there. But PL is pretty big in Anchorage.

Hey man, some of those tranny's were all state athletes before they started wearing skirts!! There are a few that still look like they could do some damage.

And, yeah, there are a couple that look good. (You have to qualify "good", you know, they look good.... in the dark..... at 0300.....when you are dead tired....just coming back from a call....etc....etc... etc. Now, the dudes that cruise for them in their jacked up 4x4's, that is another story). You are awfully picky Mick, for a guy who spent time at sea!!

Sorry to get off topic.

Good luck w/ the strongman in Alaska.

Mark

p.s. I will mention tranny's no more forever. (unless by special request)
