A great crowd of almost 2000 fans came out to watch the 8th Annual BC championships.. a top level field was on hand to do battle in the heavy show.. six event tested the strongmen
The results were
Grant Higa (295 lb)in first
Randy Davis (320 lb) in Second
Mark Wechter in third ( Mark is an IFSA middleweight pro @ 230 lb and put on a conan's wheel that has to be seen to be beleived.)
Big Robin Wright (285 lb) in fourth
Rob Medves (280 lb) in fifth
Big MATT Parkes (300 lb) in 6th
and Jamie (235 lb) near the back in 7th
Martin Kufaas (255 lb) in eighth
and Tim "the BEAST" Nagy (314 and a half lb) withdrew after the first event and was in ninth
Grant won the 305 Farmers w/ about 80 feet Robin second.. Higa also won the log medley hitting 307 -just missing the 340 - Randy Davis was second..Mark Wechter smoked the conan's with 4 laps. Randy was second with 3.. Big MATT won the medley .( but it ended up kicking his ass)... Grant won the deadlift hold and Martin was second and finally the suprise event was a flipping medley with a 600 tire / the honda civic and a 875 tire.. Grant won this too and I beleive big Rob Medves was 2nd.. all in all a cool show.
must train hardfer for next year..

Congratulations to all, especially Grant.
We just had the pleasure of having Grant work out w/ us a couple of weeks ago. For anyone who has never met him, he is a great guy. Very generous w/ his time and tips.
Congrats. I guess working out with us amateur lightweights is just what you needed!!! lol

Thanks guys! Had a great time, and what a beautiful venue to have a show! There was so many people, and all the volunteers were very helpful. It was good to see Randy Davis again...I had not seen him since 2001 Big Sky's Strongest Man, which is also the first time I met Jesse & Corey St Clair.
Anyone going to the World Strongman Cup event to be held there later this month, is going to love the outdoor amphitheatre overlooking the water.
Jamie, thanks for the Hamgurgers at your house! It was good to see you again.
I can't believe I won a Farmer's Walk! When has that ever happened? Still need work on the grip, but was very happy with that result. It was interesting to pick up 10" cylinders. You couldn't run with them because they would touch your legs and kick out of the hands. Had to walk slow & tight with them. Big Tim hurt his back in this event & had to drop out for the rest of the show.
Log Medley was easy for first 3 Logs, but I need to make me a 12-14" diameter Log. Having a hard time figuring out how to press it over my head....it was only 347 lbs, so I should be slamming that, but I feel clueless on the big Log.
Disappointing Conan's Wheel for me. I think I only went 2.5 laps, while Mark Wechter did a SICK 4.25 laps with 600 lbs. If you tried to run with it, the Tire would bounce all over, so you had to have good control.
Medley: Flip a 380 lb Fingal Finger, duck walk 380 lbs, then Chain Drag 60 ft (I think).
I have not done a Finger since 2002 Midwest Strongman Challenge in Ohio. Jamie was telling me that it was easy, but I was kinda worried about how to properly do it. Sure enough, it took me almost 5 tries to flip it over. Matt Parkes was on the Chain while I was still flipping the Finger! After finally getting that thing over, I was so tapped out, I was struggling with the Duck Walk. When I finally got that over, the Chain felt like it was glued to the ground. We train with a 706 lb Chain, but this 600 lbs Chain on a brick like surface, was tough to move. Matt Parkes busted his ass, and was the only guy to finish this event! He was so gone afterwards, they had to call paramedics to come take a look at him. He ended up not competing in the last 2 events because of his effort.
Car Hold for time: Need more grip work, cause my time could be better. Picked up the back of a Ford Mustang, no straps.
Suprise event: 600 lb tire flip, Honda Civic flip, 823 lb Tire Flip.
I was fortunate to have led the show the entire time, but at one point, I only had a 1/2 point lead over Randy, with Mark breathing down our necks. I needed to do better than those 2 guys in order to win. 600 lb Tire was easy, but when I moved to the car and started to Clean it up, my right calf cramped! It was fatigued from me trying to monkey-bar theFingal Finger! Had to Zercher lift it from the bottom to get it started, then my calf cramped again when I moved to the 823 lb tire. I got it over, but it wasn't pretty since I couldn't get explosive with my calf acting up.
I had a great time, saw some beautiful sights on the 2 hour ferry ride, and met alot of the Canadian guys that I've heard about on other forums. Would definitely suggest this contest to anyone living nearby Vancouver, BC area.
Later,
HIGA.

Many apologies to Big Tim Nagy and Matt Parkes as my show recap was a little vague. Tim herniated a disk and had to withdraw after the first event while Matt needed oxygen and EMT attention after the fouth event and medical personel and the promoter would not let him continue.
Hope this clears it up..
