Out of the 173 people in my career field selected I was the number 5 selectee. I am super pumped. This is going to make competing this weekend so much easier.

That is HUGE! I doubt most people have a conception of how hard it is to make rank these days especially in certain career fields.

Thanks man! I actually have one of the hardest career fields to promote in and the AF is really hard to promote in so that shows you how stinkin hard I had to work to get this.

We don't have a wetting down, but we do "pin on" the stripes. We pretty much get punched by everyone we work with. I will be black and blue for weeks when I actually get to wear this next stripe.

Congrats Adam! Promotions in the AF are always hard. Why? High retention rate. That alone says something about the organization. What career field are you in?

I spent 4 yrs in the AF between 86-91. But I have moved on. Spent the last 15 yrs in the Coast Guard.

I wish I got my own shop. Out here we are an enroute station so me being a SSgt doesn't mean crap yet. Out here we have Tech Sergeants carrying tool boxes just like the rest of us.

I work on the C17 and the C5. We have to be proficient at both aircraft here.

I know man, I'm bummed about not being able to pull the idiot card any more. Haha! I've been in just over 4 years. This is my second time testing. I missed it by 9 points last year. My line # is 8416. A buddy of mine has an number of 321. He pins on in a week and a half.

I hit you up on myspace, but I figured I'd give you a congrats over here as well. SrA to SSgt is the first big jump to take. My line number ended up being 5139, I'm hoping to have my stripe on by December. We'll see.

The only crappy part about this is now I have to go to ALS! :disgust:

It is also just as hard to use. It takes almost an hour just to set up and then the test is only seconds long.

I hear ya', I've gained about 60 lbs since I was fitted for them. I had them on about a year ago for a Chief Inductee Ceremony and I felt like if I made one wrong move the sleeves would rip off.

I'm not looking forward to it. One of the dudes I used to work with is an instructor up there right now, if I have to deal with him for 6 weeks I'm not going to be happy. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that I get someone cool.

Former AF & AF Reserves here. I was a 1C6 (277) space operations - still doing space ops on the 'outside'. You pinned on the hard way, do like I did ... Go Palace Chase to the Reserves, pin on Staff and then go ROTC (I was offered that several times but I declined - could not deal with the politics of Space Command - lol).

Sure does. He came off the jet and we thought he was a deployer wearing DCU's, turns out it was just his BDU's were that faded. Gotta love the guys that won't let go of the fact that they aren't a size 32 anymore.

Good deal. Do you have the MP3's of the PDG? Do you have your degree? I am at the point that it is "pointless" to study for advancement to Tech, because I have my BS, I "may" be better off just studying for the AFOQT. But make no mistake I will be studying for these next 550-600 days I have left for Tech. When do you put on? Just be careful. I know you work on the line, and those dudes take promotion seriously....so watch out....

No I just read it a few times. I went through the PFE twice and then went and bought the PFE gold. I will do the same with the PDG. I don't have my degree yet. I have 70 credits, but I wanted to make SSgt before I really concentrated on any extra schooling. I think I pin on in Feb of next year. My line # is 8416 which is right in the middle this year. It kinda sucks that you don't get promoted according to your score on the test, I was the #5 selectee. Yeah we do take it pretty seriously here. As soon as our stripes were handed to us the commander and the maintenance chief told us that we'd better keep our butts out of trouble because they would redline our stripe in a heartbeat. I should be fine though. I am working on getting Airman of the year this year, I got it last year, so I will have my nose in the books and my butt out of trouble for a while. I'm just bummed that I have to go through upgrade training and that I can't compete during that time. We also don't have 7 level school anymore so I don't get to look forward to that.
