bulknutrition.com is pretty good.

I would go with shakes over bars. They usually have to much crap (high fructose corn syrup, partially hydrogenated oils, fillers and addavtives) for me.

vitamin world when they have sales.

32g protein bars for 5 dollars a box (12 bars)
Detour bars for 5 dollars a box or 20 a case.

Check online at DPS nutrition as well, something they have good prices on stuff that will "expire" in a month or 2.

Does anyone know how long protein bars are good for after they are past their "best used by" date??

thanks guys i made some of the protien bars that were in the link and even though they are not done i tried a little and they are really good! then at dps i found protien bars that were pretty cheap (96bars/$59)(and around the right macronutrien% for me)not to mention cytomax protien powder (5lb) for $20 (which is good because i used the last of mine making the bars)

I'll pass on the choc. covered turds thank you...

Just get some plastic containers and pack FOOD. there's this cool stuff called FOOD, which often contains all that the body requires to grow and get stronger. FOOD is readily available and is usually cheaper than turds dunked in Choc. All one has to do is take the time to COOK the FOOD and PACK it into meal sized proportions. Beleive it or not, our ancesters, including the great SAMSON of the Bible, have been eating FOOD since the beginning of time.

......and where do you buy it? I seem to remember my grandfather talking about it when I was little. I think my grandmother even cooked(sp?) some of it for us once. I seem to remember it being objects of different colors, tastes and consistency. Do they make a chocolate flavored powdered version of this FOOD stuff that I can mix in a blender with water?

hahahaha

I usually just take peanutbutter sandwiches to school to eat between classes. However, hopefully you have a water fountain around because it gets tough to swallow. Well protein bars as well.

This semester, I will probably be taking tupperware with precooked chicken tenderloins in it, and just microwave it at school..I just need to get a large thermos to keep my milk cold, I hate warm milk.

Make your own beef jerky or chicken jerky. Stays fresh for a while and you can snack on it throughout the day.
Anyone know any ways to make homemade beef jerky w/o a dehydrator?

I dont see anything wrong with shakes if you use them in moderation, I use them twice a day. Once when I just wake up, and usually after I am done with my main work out. I just bring a bottle to the gym and sip on it while I do abs or calves or something.

But i probably bring in 60g's of protein at most from shakes.

Chicken, milk, egg whites, are where i get most of the protein from.

I like to eat,but sometimes have trouble eating enough of the things I need to to get all of the protein in that I need,so the bars or shakes come in handy(although Ill take a shake over a bar). The gnc chocolate peanut butter bars are actually pretty good.I tried one of the new eas and met rx bars at the arnold classic, and they were great as far as taste goes, but couldnt tell you what flavor or whatever they were.
Personally I think I would take a couple shakes with me,if I could, and some other real foods that you could eat fast.Maybe a small container of some type of chopped up meat,or even eggs(they dont HAVE to be warm)

Hey, I didn't read the entire thread, but if you're looking for some good, quick forms of protein, try this out:

Homemade Protein Bars--

1 cup Natural peanut butter
8 tablespoons honey
1&1/4 cups whey protein powder
1 cup of uncooked oatmeal

Mix the pb and honey in a bowl, microwave on full for 80 secs. Add the rest and mix together (get your hands in man!!) can add raisins/nuts etc to taste. Smooth into 13x9 tray and leave for 20 mins. Cut into 10 to 12 equal bars and wrap and store in fridge!!

Or:

1 cup Natural peanut butter
6-7 tbsps. of natural honey
1.6 cups of chocolate MRP powder
1 cup almond/raisin granola

I work in construction, so in the summer, I also need some quick nutrients I can slam on the go. Shakes are convenient, but as Jesse said, nothing beats the value of food. Just get creative with your shakes. You can add all kinds of food and just blend it up....dry oats, egg whites, fruit, honey, yogurt, milk, etc. I've even tried the 16 oz of orange juice blended with 1 can of Albacore Tuna, wasn't too bad. I'm not joking when I say this, but I also tried it with a cranberry blend fruit juice and it was much better! Just make your shakes the night before, put some ice cubes in the shakers in the morning, and carry them in your book bag. I'm sure you can fit a couple in there.
Nothing like drinking whole foods!!

last year i got to down a protein shake, almond butter sandwhich and a banana all in between class....but the thing is i had PE class that is why. They give you like 10 friggin minute to get dressed into PE clothes so i just hurry my ass up and down all of it. Then eventually it got smaller and smaller...and i just started drinking my shake and eating the banana.

And now this year..i have no more PE...and there is only enough time to down a shake between class. And then have lunch of 8oz beef and 150g of rice w/ broccoli...which is also too big to finish..so i eat a bit of it during lunch..and finish the rest when i get home.

My bowl of rice takes me literally almost 1hr to eat....don't know why....either i'm a slow eater...or this is a pretty tough to chew bowl of BEEF/RICE...i would think its the chewing....cause top round beef thats been cooked and not freshly prepared is almost like beef jerky.
