This should have been posted sooner ... great job to the athletes representing the US at the IFSA PanAm! I heard Pfister was on fire and Travis O. kicked ass with the stones - he completed in 25secs and even had a little stumble on the mats! I'm not sure how everyone finished, but I heard Gillingham and Dolan did very well (3rd and 4th, I think)!!

<TABLE class=bodytext width=641><TBODY><TR><TD class=bigboldtext align=middle>Pfister: King of the Jungle in Brazil </TD></TR><TR><TD class=bodytext>Sure Phil Pfister won the IFSA Pan American Championships today in Brazil, but how he did it was as important as the win itself.
First, just on the numbers, Pfister won all but one event - the MHP Stones of Strength - and even there, he was a close second.
But numbers alone do not tell the full story as the man once nicknamed "The Future Mayor of St. Louis" due to his crowd-pleasing antics, really hit his stride in Sao Paulo, revving up the crowd, which gave him its best end-of-day salute when he ripped off his shirt: They, "started a scream like Johnny Weissmuller in those classic Tarzan movies," IFSA CEO Jussi Laurimaa said.
Laurimaa, who has a cycling background, said that if strongman had something like a Patron de Peloton award (given to not just the fastest guy, but to the true leader of the group), Pfister would have gotten that today.
Here are the top five finishers in the IFSA Pan American Championships, all of whom qualify for the IFSA World Championships in Quebec:
1. Philip "Wolfman" Pfister (USA) 87.0 points
2. Travis Ortmayer (USA) 77.5
3. Karl "Gladiator" Gillingham (USA) 67.5
4. Geoff "Tiger" Dolan (Canada) 64.0
5. Mark "Spice Man" Felix (Grenada) 61.0
After today's performance, "Wolfman" as Pfister's nickname might come under review explained Laurimaa. Sure, you could go with something like "King of the Jungle," but how about just renaming the 'Wolfman" something simple, like "Alpha" instead? </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

I have phil and travis picked for top 2. I guessed geoff at 3rd and travis at fourth. SO my predictions were close.
I talked around and I guess Phill was unstoppable.

Jesse,
I thought Jon Anderson was going to be in that contest. Any word from him and what he is up to?

Cool, thanks. About 3 weeks ago he stopped by Portland and did a few workouts in preperation for that contest but then I didn't hear anything else.

This was definitely the hardest contest I have ever done! But hell, it was a lot of fun though and totally worth the two days I spent in bed when I got home. I just got over being nervous for Brazil and now I am freaking out about Quebec. I don't think I'll ever be able to relax again.

The money for the World Championships is amazing - $250,000. How can they have that much cash? Especially when they didn't even do a US Nationals because of sponsorship issues. Just curious if anyone has any insight.

that's a HUGE claim... don't forget that IFSA takes 30% of all earnings from it's athletes. So that # is smaller, but still big!
I hope they come through, how cool would that be??!?!? Strongmen getting paid phat! I can't imagine winning that 1st place prize money... I'd have no excused not to buy Callie something with diamonds in it...
