"Yeah, milk does a body good—if you are a calf. It is evil to your body to put something in there that makes a baby cow into a 2,000lbs. cow within two years."

~Woody Harrelson~

Is he serious!?!

Thats why I hate most of the outspoken people in Hollywood, they either try to pass off their ignorance as fact, or they use their fame to promote something stupid, i.e. the vegan lifestyle or something like that.

*note to any vegans here* 1st, are there actually any vegans here? And 2nd, I don't hate you or the vegan lifestyle, though I may not agree with it, I just hate celebrities that pass off their views as the only correct one and say all others are complete crap. Atleast that applies to 99% of celebrities and the things they say.

By his logic, we should all be drinking whale milk if we really want to get big. Screw a 2000# cow, how about a 50 ton whale!!!

I would just hate to be the one to milk it.

most scandanavians (sp) are almost void of lactose intolerance, you will notice that the not being able to process milk comes form a long line of not even knowing what a cow was. If you think about it, where your family comes from way in the past will determine your lactose intolerance levels. Cultures that had no cows and no cows milk, have high incidence while cultures like northern europeans who lived off cows milk have a very low rate.

Its not that we are not able to process it or that it is some evil thing that shouldnt be done and our bodies can not tolerate it. its the fact that evolution and not being exposed to it over generations has left some cultures with lactose intolerance.

So yes we are designed to drink milk after puberty, it just depends on what and where your genes come from.

Mine are 100% from northern european, needless to say, milk is my friend.

Where as italians have a 50/50 chance of being lactose intolerant. And southeast asians have a 98% chance. when they mix with other genes that have lower incidence for Lactose intolerance the % drops. This is all from that fancy chart some study found.

I'm very aware of all that, it doesn't change that the majority of humans currently have a lactose intolerance, though this is skewed a bit by the high asian populations.

Yeah but there's only a 50% chance of that!

Sad that at 340 lbs, the only thing that gains weight when I drink milk is the toilet.

Now that my 3-year-old is on a nature show kick, I can say...

Seal milk is where it's at... 100lbs of weight gain in 1 week (the seals on the show only nursed for a week and gained 100lbs).

I've never understood that stance. Is he crazy? Sure. Are a lot of actors dumb? Yeah. However, they have just as much of a right to state their opinion as any of us, and they happen to be famous so more people hear it.

We would probably all do the same thing if we were famous, if you think you are right you're not going to hide your opinions. None of us do on this forum, thats for sure.

You pretty much nailed it with that statement. The problem isn't the whacky entertainers, but that our culture pays too much attention to the things they say.

Isn't Woody fond of marijuana? Yeah, lighting the bud of a weed on fire and inhaling the tar laden smoke is perfectly natural. We all come out of the womb ready to do that.

She said, "Snowballs".

I would have thought that Indians would have been completely tolerant to lactose, but by the link you give 20% are intolerant. As well, wouldn't they then skew the the percentages for the total human population, given there are a billion of them?

Why would they be lactose tolerant in your opinion? I thought most couldn't drink milk because the cow is sacred in the major religion of their country? I have little knowledge of Hinduism, so I may be wrong.

It could be argued that humans have been smoking 'burning plants' as long as they've been drinking cows milk (probably longer actually) and are, therefore, also quite adapted to it. The Lord gave us the weed, so we shall smoke the weed! :mag: Although, personally, I can't be doing with it...

The Lord gave us the weed, so we shall smoke the weed!

Is that the same God who promised His people a land flowing with milk and honey? :D

There may be something to your line of thought about the God giving the weed though, medicinal values and such I guess.

However, if you truly believed it was from God you would have to wonder if we are supposed to be smoking it instead of some other form of ingestion. It doesn't seem that God designed the lungs to consume and process concentrated amounts of smoke of any kind, especially tar heavy marijuana smoke. Anyway, I'm totally rambling on, so feel free to ignore............

That total explains why every baby mammal on earth gets heart disease at some time during their life span! Wow who would of thought LOL.

IM sure that link is more related to the fact most americans who entered the study were most likely not performing regular exercise. Which is actually the number one cause of heart disease. HMM maybe just maybe they were not exercising and drank milk!!!!

OR maybe the study was done with people who already had heart disease and they were simply asked do you drink milk? LOL

OR maybe it was done on some lab animal

Or they just skewed some fancy statistics using some of that fancy statistical formulas to get an answer they wanted.

Or maybe it was the high level of cholesterol found in milk and in consuming large amounts of dairy products without regular exercise they put extra stress on their hearts and the long time favorite of heart disease "Cholesterol" wins AGAIN!!!

From memory,

1. It was an international study, not just American.

2. It sampled representatively across the population in a wide number of countries i.e., not biased to certain groups.

3. The study was published in a peer-reviewed scientific journal and therefore you have to assume that the statisical tests that were carried out were appropriate and valid.

4. I remember the study was able to state that it was milk protein rather than fat content that appeared to be linked to heart disease.

5. But a significant caveat is that correlation does not equal causation!

And the argument about baby mammals drinking milk is not valid. The point is that baby mammals drink the milk of their mother which is clearly adapted to their requirements at that stage in their life. Drinking another animals milk (i.e., humans drinking cow's milk) as an adult is a totally different situation.

This is the same guy who did an interview with Barbara Walters stating he doesn't like to get off during sex because it shortens the male lifespan.

Do some more drugs Woody.

Yeah, that is a very weird belief that is held by some of the more hardcore followers of certain yin style martial arts and certain types of yoga. Folks that stick to the old eastern beliefs do believe this and many other weird things, some of which are completely ridiculous. The acupuncture school I go to unfortunately has several of those types. They say that you lose your "Jing Essence" when you ejaculate, so they believe that you should never get off during sex because it shortens your life span.

I asked one of these guys one day "so, when you are 120 years old and never got off, would you rather have lived to be 120 and never ejaculated, or live to 75 and had plenty of sex?...it's a quality of life issue my friend". He then said he had never thought of it that way, and that he "saw my point". They also hold to the belief that you should never have sex in the weeks leading up to an athletic event because it will hurt your performance, and teach that weight training is BAD for your health. They give all the old reasons that coaches back in the 50's used to give their athletes for not wanting them to lift, like it makes you tight and inflexible, it makes you slow, etc. All the stupid stuff that has been debunked thoroughly by research since the "dark ages". I asked them that if that is true, why have all the studies in modern times shown how much it IMPROVES your health and performance??? Why do all the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB players now work out with weights??? They have no answer. Mostly it is this small occult-like group at the school that holds to these weird beliefs, and fortunately, most of them have already graduated.

One of those "occult members" said one day that their Qi Gong and Tai Chi and other yin style martial arts were better than what the UFC guys do. I asked them that if that is true, why aren't people who practice their style all champions in the UFC. It looks like that would be the case. Their answer: "We aren't motivated by material goods or championship belts." Sure you aren't.

Woody Harrelson is probably one of these types, and they are very weird to be around on a daily basis. I don't have a problem with them believing whatever they want to believe, I just have a problem when they think they are right and you are wrong and they need to convert you over to their way of thinking. Then I have a problem with them.

All I'm saying is it means nothing that some "scientific study" proved milk is not good for humans when you provide just about no evidence of such a study. It's like saying a program is good because it's Russian. You've proven nothing so far, no need to bring my age into it.

there are studies that prove that just about everything is bad. Hell, i'm sure me staring at the computer so long is going to put a strain on my eyes according to eye docs.

I choose to enjoy my life, and that means I will do things that I find fun, I will eat things that taste good, and I will drink milk because it tastes great. If that means i'll be gone sooner than later, so be it. I'd much rather enjoy myself now while i'm young and able-bodied, rather than as a senior that needs an aid to come to the house to wipe my ass.

Thats true to an extent, though theres always a limit. I mean I would rather live a shorter time than be a vegetarian. On the other hand, I think most of us try to eat healthy in many ways...avoid carcinogenic food, trans fats, etc.
