Hello everyone, I had posted on here about my shoulder problem. I just left my doctors office and he said that my shoulder will be permanetly disabled. My permanent restictions are no overhead work and no lifting more than 40 lbs. Which means no more Strongman eihter. So I am selling all of my equipment that I have accumulated. I have a 10 in log, 1200, 650, 500 lb tires(all tires are free), 220, 240, and 330 lb stones, a apir of farmers walk handles, an oly bar and a few hundred pounds of oly weights. I live in Idaho if anyone is interested let me know and we can work out pricing. Thank you.

I agree, I am DEFINETLY not saying that your injury is not serious, but I know of many people who thought they were out forever when they really werent injured all that bad....

Good luck with whatever happens...

Derek Poundstone's doctor told him he would never be able to train again because of a back injury. He decided to keep training and is healthy. I’m not saying that you shouldn’t listen to your doctor. You should just make sure that you go see a sport specialist and then make up your mind. It’s your body

I agree. I would hate for you to sell your stuff and then relize that the doc was an idiot. I would definatley not give up. Physical therapy can do work wonders. Good luck recovering.

dude...get a second and maybe 3rd opinion...if I had listened to my first ortho surgeon 5 yrs ago...I'd never be able to do anything and have two artificial knees....

additionally..I have been diagnosed with a heart condition....and the cariologists first reaction...(knee jerk reaction ) was..."uh..Mr. Perkins..you are to know longer do strongman}

now it's..."let's consider it a 3 month hiatus of light training and take it from there" ....

so brah! get a second opinion...according to my sports specialist ortho surgeon i should barely be able to walk and be on serious pain meds....but he knows everyone is different..and he understands an athlete...the sport...and the personality of an athlete..

Follow your heart. Do what you feel you need to. DO not give up on yourself.

Those words were exactly what Nicolette said to me....after I got my first diagnosis with my heart...and she was right....

and brah....I can barely flat bench 135lbs...cuz of my shoulder..no exaggeration...yet..I easily can press 300lbs off the rack overhead...

Just to echo what everyone has already said, you absolutely need to get a second opinion. Furthermore, look into alternative treatments on your own, i.e. prolotherapy, which I swear by, and Active Release Technique.

Jesse,

My fear of regularly Dr's is they have no real understanding of our sport or what we put our body's through. That being said, there is a great ART doc in Boise Dr. Eri Crumm
<br>Boise Spine Center (http://www.boisespinecenter.com/)

He was a major sponsor at the Snake River meet and an all around great guy. He has a good understanding of strongman and will give you an honest assessment with no BS. It would definately be worth a trip to Boise. Amy and I see him regularly and now swear by ART.

I tore my posterior labrum last year before a PL meet and he was able to get me back to 100% ROM in a few months.

I know it's frustrating, but hang in there and don't give up until you get a second opinion from a quality ART Dr.

PM me and I'll give you my number if you'd like to talk more. - Matt

Sad to say that, that was my second opinion. I injured the shoulder in January and had surgery in April. It has gotten to the point to where I can barely wash my head without pain and it gets worse as the day goes on. I have dreamed of being a strongman since I was a little kid but I really dont think it is in the cards for me. I really appreciate all of the support it has made a horrible day not so bad with all of your consideration. Thank you all.

You have got to be kidding right? I had shoulder surgery and I was paralyzed from the waist down for over a month from a shrapnel wound.... IF I CAN MAKE IT BACK AFTER ALL THAT...SO CAN YOU.... Here's your second opinion: You are crazy! Go to another doc

dont give up, just give it time......... a few months, a year even a few years if need be.... I know that you are bummed out and really just want to say eff this and sell your equipment. Do yourself a favor... keep it. maybe some day whether its sooner or later youll be able to use it,

But strongman or no strongman i hope you feel better brother... focus on getting yourself better first then give strongman a try again

I agree on the second opinion, man. See a sports Doc or at the least a Doc who lifts weights. Developing a good relationship with the right doctor is priceless, however there are many out there who think a guy 6' 1 should weigh no more than 170lbs.....and when somebody knows nothing about lifting weights, whether or not they are a doctor, their natural reaction to a lifting injury is "stop lifting weights" because it is the only thing that will ensure you won't get hurt lifting again.

My advice is to get another opinion....don't sell your stuff, just maybe put it away for a little while and get yourself where you need to be.

I'm not saying get opinions until you hera one you like but get more opinions then that. I;ve seen people recover from so many things; and that's as an X Ray Tech.

Don't seel your stuff man, not till you know whats going on beyond knowing.

Definitely give it some serious thought and see a sports med doc that specializes in shoulders before you get rid of everything and get out of the sport. So many have had nasty injuries and come back when doctors said there was no way. After seeing the right doc and doing the right stuff you could very well be back in the game. If after everything you do decide to move on to something else and sell your equipment I'll buy it but definitely wait a while before doing something as drastic as that.

I've had shoulder surgeries on both sides. The only reason that I wanted them was so I could lift again. Don't give up.

Two athletes that have been retired by injury:
Derek Poundstone
Scott Tully

ohh wait  they are still competing never mind. Seriously get a second and third opinion. Hang in there buddy.
