Not sure exactly how this works, or if it works, but apparently Wendy's is running a contest and giving away food for those who advertise their website. If y'all wouldn't mind helping a brother out and checking this out, I'd appreciate it. My nickname on the site is "RedBeardSM"
Thanks in advance. If I win something I'll share with whoever I go to Wendy's with.

When did this place turn into BB.com? There are PLENTY of guys who got strong as a truck and ate a lot of crap. It's nice to be healthy and it's nice to see your abs, but it's also nice to enjoy what youre eating. And anyone would have a tough time convincing me that you CANT get strong while eating crap. There's too much empirical evidence the other way.

i'd rather eat crap than not eat, there have been days i've been so busy that i've eaten fast food for all my meals.
Maybe that's why marshal is a pro and i'm not

So if a person wants to be strong but also be healthy (which will make him stronger) by eating clean then that person must be a bodybuilder? There is no guy on this planet that is "strong as a truck" that eats crap food that couldn't be stronger by eating better and that is a fact! Obesity is a freaking epidemic in our country and we as athletes should lead by example. Eating at fast food joints only encourages them to make and sell more of a product that is flat out HORRIBLE for your body...so what it tastes good....I'm sure heroin feels good...you gonna go crank some of that off in your veins? You want to have a "cheat meal" or "something that tastes good"....make some homemade ice-cream....natural peanut butter...hell dried fruits....eat a spoonful of sugar for all I care all of these options do not lead to heart disease, cancer, obesity, diabetes, and a variety of other things. On second thought...keep eating fast food....I'll keep eating clean and we'll see who is WSM first......ok....GO!

Not looking to get into a fight with you marshall, but I do have to say, that just doesnt convince me. "wants to be strong but also be healthy (which will make him stronger)" "that couldn't be stronger by eating better and that is a fact!" A fact, really? An indisputable fact? What are you basing these on? I mean it, really?
As far as the heroin example ... my only experience with heroin has been watching the first half of the movie "trainspotting" (except I think i missed the first ten minutes) anyway, that did NOT look like fun to me.
The obesity epidemic - there is a HUGE difference between a guy like bolton or savickas with a huge gut but also a huge amount of muscle mass, and aa guy like your ordinary, sedentary couch potato who has the gut but not the muscle.
fast food leading to heart disease, et al. - well heck, alcohol has been linked to heart disease and cancer. I dont drink much, and I dont drink often, but darned if im not gonna have a coupla drinks a coupla times a year.

I'm not trying to fight you at all...but it makes me angry to see people that are athletes advocating eating fast food....I realize that there is a huge difference between your average joe and Big Z or Bolton (Although just because Andy is strong doesn't make him an athlete or healthy) the point is though that we should be examples and there are other alternatives to fast food that still taste good and will quell that "junk food" desire. What is it about McDonald's that is so much better than a home cooked burger? In my opinon there is nothing better about it...when I eat that burger at home I also get the satisfaction of knowing I am not contributing to a major problem in our country and I am getting huge at the same time (and staying healthier)...and I can't even believe you would dispute that eating healthier will make you stronger....what research shows that high sodium, high sugar, high fat, etc. food will make you stronger? None...all the research shows the contrary. The heroin example was made to show that there are things in our society that may taste, feel, look good but you have to shun those things for the better good of your body....everyone consumes things that aren't good for them but it is the contribution to an epidemic that bothers me. Try eliminating fast food from your diet and I GUARANTEE you will improve athletically. What do you want more...a "tasty" burger from Wendy's.....or to be a phenomenal strongman?

In the recent past I have been pretty staunchly against "fast foods" or "unhealthy dietary choices." Until recently I hadn't been to a "fast food" resturaunt in 6 or 7 years. My first alcoholic beverage was consumed on Aug. 4th, 2007, well into my 22nd year. Also, until recently I hadn't consumed soda pop in 6 or 7 years.
I made the choice to go ahead and have a Dr. Pepper, recently. I've had one once in a while...their delicious. I also had a couple "fast food" burgers in the past few months, also not bad, but very cheap (which was refreshing). And once or twice, while sitting around with the wife or a something I've had a beer or two.
Is stopping by DQ for a couple 69 cent cheeseburgers as you rush from events on Saturday to work gonna kill you? Naw, most things are doable in moderation. Sometimes you do what you gotta do. A protein shake is quick and easy, but there aint much to it.
The difference is in the overall approach to it. If DQ or McDonald's become the first choice or the most common, then we may have an issue. You keep a good diet overall, lean meats, quality CHO sources, probably limit the sugar and stay away from sat. fats and such and you're doing okay. If every now and then you gotta stop by a 'choke-and-puke' and grab a disgustingly greasy burger...so be it. Just so that it remains every-now-and-then.
Now, since I decided to lighten up with the principles about "fast food" my training hasn't suffered. Actually, it's skyrocketted in many areas. Where I might not have been able to pull off a decent meal before I've occasionally substituted a less-than-decent meal, just to get something in me. Some protein, CHO, etc. Now, certainly with enough discipline and planning one can avoid needing to resort to such things, but for me, honestly, as a former fatboy, I think cheating once in a while does me good. I love eating good clean food, but it get's "depressive" as my buddy described it. It really does for me...food doesn't seem as appetizing and with my metabolism I need as much as I can get.
So, honestly, a good clean diet is a huge component in training and overall health but there is an element of balance involved if you ask me. The day I plan on stepping on stage in thong posing trunks is the day I don't have an occasional slice of pizza. And I assure you...

There is NOTHING that can be said to convince me that eating fast food in ANY amount is good for you...that being said.....find another pro..or someone very high up in the strength game (especially strongman) to tell me that eating fast food is good for me and I MIGHT consider it until then I will continue doing what I'm doing...getting better and better and passing up those guys that don't have the dedication to do or not do what it takes to get better.

Like Terry Hollands, 3rd place in WSM. Doesn't seem to hurt his performance much.
In fact, if I had to pick a strongman that had junk food now and again I'd probably guess at Terry... (no offence intended obviously, given that you're 2.5 times my body-weight)

Training at the Bergmann farm all summer, they had a ritual every Saturday. After events, someone would make a run to Charlie's and they'd all sit and eat double cheeseburgers, deep-fried cheese curds, and drink milkshakes. All 3 brothers are now pros.
Just answering your question Marshall :D I certainly don't want you to give me a wedgey and rub my face in the dirt! HAHA
Anyway, you guys need to stop talking about this because I worked all day, then trained events, I'm freakin starving, and I live dangerously close to a Hardee's! And, I'm still about 10 lbs too heavy for Nats.

Here we go again. A guy asks a simple request to check something out for him to score some food at Wendy's and then people turn the thread into Wendy's isn't healthy and why would you want to eat that. I am sure Scott already knows this, I don't recall him asking that.

I dont think any of us would eat fast food all the time,or would look at a Wendy's burger the same as eating one from the store that we cooked ourselves.I personally feel like crap mentally and physically after eating fast food, but if Im in a hurry, and dont have anything with me,Ill buy a couple burgers and just eat the meat.Even then I feel crappy, and would rather have something that I cooked myself.Plus,I can buy 1 lb of hamburger, and a can of green beans for less than buying the combos I would normally buy at a fast food place.
Sadly it seems that everything is said to be bad for us,unless you have the cash to buy all natural stuff.Alot of people preach about milk.Although it has alot of nutritional value, store bought milk has alot of junk in it too.We have a place here that produces alot of dairy products for stores. Most of my friends that have worked there refuse to drink milk, and have told me some pretty nasty stories.
D.J you are right.

I believe the grand prize is one burger a week. I doubt that'll kill anyone. Certainly it's not as bad as the Snickers I'd have otherwise. :)
For a struggling grad student, that extra couple of bucks a week would sure come in handy, even if it's not for the holy grail of nutrition.
Anyhow, I didn't intend to start a war over whether or not Wendy's was good for you. If you don't want it, then don't eat it. Some of us do strongman for fun, and will feel fulfilled even without ever going pro. For those who are driven to be a top level pro, more power to you.
(Now go vote for me so I can eat more Wendy's and get fatter and apparently weaker too!)

I seriously cannot believe so many people on this forum have defended fast food joints....it amazes me.

I agree with you Marshall. I ate fast food all the time.....and still worked out. I guess I am strong, but I did an experiment. My uncle is a body builder, and he is comp dieting right now. So for some moral support I cut my fast food to once or twice a week. This down from 10-11 times a week. Not only do I feel better but, I have gotten stronger. I tweeked my diet completely. It is amazing how much beer messes with your body also.
Yes I love my hamburgers here and there, but not as a staple of my nutrition.

Iv'e been following this thread and I'm finding the differing opinions intresting. I have a different take on training and performance and the infulences surrounding this issue.
I have been lifting for over (20) years now and I have learned the following. The single biggest infulence affecting my training and performance is not diet, not lack of sleep, not the right or wrong program. It's simply if I have my personal life in order.
Let me elaborate, I have had I don't know how many training partners during this twenty year stretch and without exception the biggest infulence has been people's personal life. Marriage, reltionship issues, divorce, stress at work, family conflicts, child custody issues, no job, etc.
The biggest gains I have made in the strenth game have been during a period in my life when I had a great deal of stability. I am convinced that the key for me to keep progressing is to keep my personal life in tact and to be concistant in my training.
If I falter in my diet it will eventuley adjust itself and I will eat healthier, if my training program is off that too will adjust itself in time, if I am not getting enough sleep that will adjust itself in time.
But when people are faced with great quantities of stress in their life training becomes a very low priority and people forget about it and quit coming to the gym. I have seen this time and time again.
Nobody I know adheres to cush a strict regiment lifestyle that he or she doesn't have on occasion a Wendy's or other fast food myself included. I don't think anyone is advocating eating three squares a day seven days a week of fast food. Just once in a while.
My .02 worth.

For those of us where this is not the only thing we do with our lives, meaning we don't have the luxury of training 4-5 times a day becuse this is our carear or we have a job that
allows us to do this, it is next to impossible to eat like most people say you should eat. Everyones body is different period.!!! If it taste good then it is good, why the hell would I want to eat something that does not taste good :M:
Eat more Wendy's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
