Default Pyramid Strongman Showdown

I guess I should start with my first competition and first time touching any of the strongman events. It was the Pyramid Strongman Showdown at Rahway Jersey,August 16 2008, where I placed 4/5 in the heavyweights. I was originally around 255 but gained some weight to be at 260ish to try and have a chance against the behemoths, didn't work lol.

Events
250lbs Log Press for rep:
I barely cleaned it, more like a cheat curl but I couldn't budge it, on the warms up it felt easy at a 180lbs, but that extra weight really made an impact on my chest. 0reps

Car Deadlift
Personally felt it was one of my best events. Not sure how much the car weighed but I know there was an extra 290lbs weight stack that made it fell pretty heavy. I did a grueling 7 reps for this.

Medley(farmers walk tire flip anchor pull)
I moved the 250lbs farmers about a little more that half the course, had a bad grip on it since i never have done it before, felt awkward, unbalanced,I kept setting it down trying to re-grip it, but just ended up completely tearing off 2 callous' on my left hand and messing up my right. I couldn't finish the rest.

Carry(300lbs tree)
I carried it 150 feet, and when I tried to turn my grip slipped I tried to re grip to no avail, my hands were all duct taped and I was feeling the effects of the car dead lift and farmers.

Stones(240,270)
I did a 220 in warm up my first time ever doing it, felt good. The 240 went up pretty well, tacky helped a lot since my hands were busted and all taped up, the 270 went up as well, but I couldn't budge the 300. Not bad in my own opinion for never touching the stuff.

Learned a lot of valuable lessons, I was slacking over the summer, after this event I was motivated.

Default Raidier Robotix

My second Competition took place in New Brunswick,Raidier Robotix, (original date was postponed to) October 11th. I came in 2nd,in heavyweights, there was a very low turn out of competitors. All events were done elimination style and points done on weight. I Competed with and against you could say Connor Shannon who came in first in the heavyweight, great dude congrats to him.

EVENTS

Log Press(180lbs/200lbs/220lbs)
Ahh my old enemy,(sad because I am a pretty good barbell and log barbell bar presser).I trained with some guys in long island 2 weeks before and hit 230lbs on the log and had a good clean, BUT i didn't follow through in this comp. The 180 went up easy no prob at all, with the 200 i tried to use my legs but it felt uncomfortable balancing it so i just strict pressed it up, same with the 220. The 240 I had an atrocious clean, or what i call it the cheat curl, burned out had nothing for the push. If i could just get some practice in....Connor hit a 240 and just missed the 260lb log.

Tire flip 10 flips I think it was 650-700lbs tire but I don't remember, my first 5 flips were kinda slow but smooth, once I hit my 8th flip tho I was burned out and just deadlifted the tire to my knees, curled it, reverse pressed and ran into it for the final 2 flips to finish. Connor did an extra flip and his time was better then mine by a few seconds.

18 inch deadlift (405,495,545,585,635,675lbs
The first 3 lifts were easy for me,585 went up no struggle, 635 felt kinda heavy, 675 made me grunt really loud but i forced it through. there was a (700ishlbs lift i don't remember.) I hitched it all the way up but before i could roll back my shoulders and lock out my DAMN SKIN BROKE.For the second comp my hands this time had its skin ripped off for the second time. Callous' flew off the left hand this time. Just taped up but didn't feel compelled to try, technically after the 585lbs which Connor just missed I didn't have to lift anymore, but i wasn't sure how things were being graded and dead lifts are my sweet suite so i just keep going for the fun of it.

yolk farmers medley Connor and I had a 700lbsish yolk I carried it 1/3 of the way it was every shaky, second time trying yolk hate it to death, was glad I didn't have to do the farmers since they were 250 and I wanted the last bit of skin on my hands to stay there. Connor missed a full run with the yolk by an inch, by now he was already ahead and won.

270lb stone over bar for reps. Connor and I both without tacky couldn't budge it, shame since Connor was toying with it when we were warming up, with my duct taped hands, and already bruised forearms I pulled the stone off once and immediately dropped it.

Overall I was glad just to compete, there was an extra event. The finale had the robot challenge, which was holding an underwater robot with their arms straight in front of them and parallel to the ground. I had it for 30 something seconds with my crappy hold on it which was already more then double the time right before when i did it, but Connor hit around 2 seconds longer then me and someone about 1-2 seconds longer then him.

Default The Numbers of the BEAST

I am going to compete in a little bench meet that my college is having, just finished a bench press program, I can do a 300lb bench press with an irregularly long pause and a 315lb touch and go both with no spotters,no shirt(don't use em),no pl arch but I wasn't fully recovered so feel the numbers may be a tad bit higher next time I check them. The meet is set for Dec 3, so I will right up my training regiment and how i did when the time comes. I am pretty tired from writing up all this old stuff, that i should have posted awhile ago, but hey better late then never.

Just yesterday I did a 530lb deadlift w/straps since my hand is a little messed up and belt. I was happy to get it, I am going to workup to 550lbs before new years and then ditch the straps and redo it the manly way but for now, all that's important is that my numbers go up. I should mention I dropped my weight to 250lbs which is 10lbs lighter then my competing weight, and since I last dead lifted in the 500lbs. With the cold weather coming in and my classes almost over, the numbers will start coming in.

He's ok I guess.

Nice to see you keeping a log here Anthony. You competing in the Battle at the Barn in January? Conor will probably do it as a 231 pounder. Good luck in the Bench comp.

Thanks. I most likely will be heading up there (more yes then no). I am trying to get my weight down but I don't think I can get down to 230 and keep all my strength by January but I am down to 250lbs from 260 so i might be able to push it if not I plan on being a speedy hw.
