Get it repaired. the recovery sucks at first, but it's the only way to get back to 100%. I'm four months out from surgery right now.

Hey Arnell,
Kind of hard to tell from the angle, but it looks like you do have some retaction of the long head of the biceps. Generally what is done if you persue syrgical repair is a bceps tenodesis where the long head is reattached in the bicipital groove. You more than likely have some damage to the labrum which would also be cleaned up and possible repaired. Depending upon the surgeon you'll be looking at about a years worth of rehabilitation. Generally, our surgeons limit folks to passive range of motion for the first 6 weeks and then we progress from there. The first thing tho is to get it evalauted by a shoulder specialist and not a general ortho surgeon. Take care and keep us posted. Ann |

Shoulder? Am I looking at the picture wrong? That looks distal to me, not proximal.

whatever you do, do not ice it. If you have to use anything use heat but don't use ice.

Arnell, Looks like it is ruptured. I just tore mine 3 1/2 weeks ago at the Olympia. I had surgery 16 days ago. I was lucky enough to have a surgeon at my hospital that just transfered from Florida where he used to perform surgeries for several professional sports teams. He has done many bicep repairs and used what he said was a state of the art technique on mine. I basically have what is an L shaped incision right below my elbow. He pulled the tendon down to the radius and ran several sutures through the tendon and attatched what he called a grappling hook to the end of the tendon which then passes through the radious and hooks on the other side. He then placed a screw through the tendon into the radius bone. He virtually guarantees the tendon will never pull off the bone again. I went home with a bandage and a soft sling. 6 days after surgery I started physical therapy working on range of motion both in straightening and flexing my arm and in supinating and pronating my wrist. I do therapy 3 times a week. And today started doing side lateral raises on a machine to keep the shoulder active. I am only 10 degrees away from having complete range of motion already. Next week we'll start doing rear delt work as well and at 4 weeks out from surgery will incorporate DB curls starting with 5lbs and light tricep work. At 6 weeks I will start pressing movements. He is very aggressive in the rehab but contiually stresses to me the strength of the repair. I fully expect to be back to training hard if not competing by 7 months out. If you have any more questions or anything don't hesitate to send me a PM or just ask on this thread. Good luck!!!
