Nicolette L. interview by Shawn Baier
Thanks guys, this is a fantastic interview. Nicolette, you rock girl! Keep up the great work. You're an inspiration to us all. Jesse PS- didn't we take a pic together at the olympia? I thought I had it somewhere but I can't find it...

Nicolette L.,
Thank you so much for the interview. After you heroically chose to defy your Dr.'s prediction about not walking again, when did you actually begin to make progress and walk again? How long after you made the declaration to yourself? And what age are you? What is your current level of health? Stamina? Mobility? etc. You look fantastic! All the best, Gigi Marunde |

Amazing, amazing story Nicolette. You are truly an inspiration to all. I will definitely think of you and your story when I think things are too tough.
Also, thanks again for your service to the country.

I'm practically speechless. I don't know what's more inspiring...your story, or that of your grandmother. The next time I don't feel like doing something in training, I'm just gonna shut my pie hole and do it! Thank you for sharing your story!

Well thank you very much. I originally started seeing slight progress within a couple of months (mostly flexibility). It took me about a year and a half to actually walk with a walker. It was a long process. My current level- I am doing very well. My lungs still give me a lot of problems. Running can really be torture for me. I am in constant pain still. I am adapting though. The hardest part is the change in pain levels from day to day. The doctors say it has a lot to do with the shrapnel moving. It is hard to want to go workout when you are in pain. I have eight doctors appointments in the next two weeks. Hopefully I will learn new ways to deal with my pain. I am over all doing great. I am setting more normal goals, definition, growth etc. It is awesome. I obviously need to improve on my mobility and endurance more. I still have a long way to go before I am at a “normal” point. I know that I may never be as good as I want to. I will continue to try. Most of the gym employees can’t believe I am the same girl that use to wheel into the gym to work out. It is pretty cool that the people I meet now in the gym ask me if I am competing instead of wondering what happened to put me in a wheelchair. Thanks for your kind words. . It means a lot coming from you! I hopefully will continue to improve

...that would even come close to doing you and what you went through justice. "Amazing!", "Great Job!" and other equally useless, in this case, congratulatory terms are easily shadowed by what you have accomplished. You are an inspiration to me, and I am sure to many on this board.
One word though, I will permit myself to use here, and that is Thank You. Thank You for sharing You and Your story with us. ~Rafael
