Dawson's Healthy Treats

Dawson is just like any other 5 year old; he wants sugar cereal, chocolate milk, chips, candy or some other junk for every meal. I guess you could hold your kid down and force them to eat good food, but a more clever method is to fix them foods that they can enjoy that are healthy, hearty, tasty, and that you can enjoy too so that you can be a positive role model and eat it with them sometimes. Parents, you need to realize that after your children grow up and make their own dietary decisions that they will revert back to eating foods that are familiar to them. That means that the foods you give them to eat while they are young establish their health standards for the rest of their life. Nearly every single overweight child becomes an overweight adult. The burden is on us parents. We need to make sure that our kids live a quality of life, for their entire life, that only nutritious foods can bring about.

Kids need a lot of fat in their diets. Fat is an important fuel source and it is vital to brain function and development. Sugar is a different story. Kids need very little sugar in their diets. The sugar found naturally in fruits has enough energy to give kids what they need. The sugars that are all so common in products marketed directly to kids are absolutely unneeded . They want it, but it doesn't do their growing bodies one bit of good. It's rather impossible to avoid letting your kids eat some sugar, and that's OK. The important thing is that they do eat some quality food at least 3 times per day. The #1 best way to keep your kids off sugar is to keep sugary foods out of your shopping cart! If it's not in the house, it's not an edible option.
