West Coast Strongest Man

The action was non stop thanks to stellar management by John “Sarge” Allen and Jesse Marunde. Jesse and Sarge planned and tested the events perfectly and the set up was so fast that contestants barely had time to rest because there was literally no break in the action between events. Sarge ran the crew in a militant fashion while Jesse ran the mic like a pro announcer. Gigi Marunde kept score all day. Only some one who has scored a contest can know how difficult that is. G-Mom rocks! The workers busted their butts to make this show go off smooth, so a special thanks to everyone involved for making this the best strongman contest ever in Washington State.
Another special mention about three teenagers, Elliot Baum, Kevin Frahm, and Marunde-Muscle's Chriss Lee, who competed against each other in a heated matchup that had the crowd freaking out. These guys are young and hung with experienced competitors. All three of these guys say they plan to stick with it. Just imagine where they are going to be in a couple years... It's scary to think about how good these three could end up. I have a feeling Elliot, Kevin and Chriss are going to be seeing each other again in competition real soon.
The first event was the H-2 Hummer arm over arm pull. Two Hummers were pulled a distance of 80 feet. The emergency breaks were set just right after numerous test pulls to make sure that the vehicles were extremely difficult to pull. Aaron Engstrom won the lightweights and Rocco Liogghio won the heavies.
The 2nd event was the Apollon axle clean and press for max weight. This event featured some amazing lifts. Robbie Walden, who weighed in at 168 pounds and trains with Jesse, straight power clean and jerked 250 pounds and then did a backflip after setting it down. It was unreal! In the heavyweights everyone was impressed with ‘Tenacious' Pete Markoff who set a 40 pound personal record by smoothly locking out 250 pounds. Al Reed, in his first ever strongman contest, won the event for the heavies with 350 pounds. Al found out about the contest only a few days before. Keep an eye out for this guy, he holds all the Washington State Olympic lifting records and has the potential to go pro in the 231 class.
The 3rd event was the farmers walk. The event was set up on a 50 foot course with 2 turns, totally 150 feet of carrying. This was so that the video production crew could film both competitors at the same time. The light weight handles weighed 200 and the heavy weights weighed 240. 20 year old, 6'5”, 265 pound, Jacob Miskimens was about half way through the event when the rear weights on his right handle fell off. He was given a 2nd attempt and unbelievably he won the event! Jacob decided to do this contest only 4 days before, and let me tell you, Jacob rocks the house! This kid is going to be a monster some day, keep an eye out for him!
The 4th event was the stones of strength. Competitors went head to head as they attempted to lift 6 stones onto a 54” platform. Sarge constructed the platform so you know the event was flawless. The light weight stones weighed 185, 225, 225, 240, 270, and 305. The heavy stones weighed 240, 240, 275, 305, 325, and 335. Robbie Walden loaded the 5 th 270 stone and almost loaded the 6 th 305 stone. Breck Gault from Marunde-Muscle also loaded 5 stones in the 200 pound class. The highlight of the lightweight class was 16 year old Elliot Baum who loaded 5 rocks! In the heavies only Rocco Liogghio would load all 6 stones.
The final event was the deadlift for max reps. The lights pulled 405 and the heavies pulled 505. Tim Howe won the light weights by easily pulling 15 reps. Robbie pulled 10 reps with 70 pounds more than double bodyweight!
